You are the first person you can learn to understand.
Hello, I am Selen. I am a qualified psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society. I am passionate about helping people live healthier and meaningful lives using evidence-based approaches in my private practice based in Hackney, London.
Whether you are thinking about starting psychotherapy, or you want to learn more about the support that I can offer, I hope you find what you are looking for.
Therapeutic Approaches
The goal of therapy, in my opinion, is to understand oneself and live a life closely aligned with our values. With that in mind, we prioritise to meet your personal needs and expectations, whether that is about your close relationships or health behaviours. I am always guided by the client, so we will be talking about whatever you would like to bring to the room each week.
I work from a third wave behavioural approaches, namely Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to raise awareness about your behaviours and to bring on meaningful change.
In addition to the behavioural approaches, I use the insight that existential psychotherapy provides to answer difficult questions about meaning and belonging. I also utilize somatic work, including focusing. I embrace diversity in physical ability, race and sexual identity in a non-judgemental space.
Areas of Expertise
I work closely with a wide range of issues, as well as those just looking to understand themselves better. My specialties include, but not limited to:
- Health behaviour change (eating and exercise)
- Body image disturbance
- Eating disorders
- Existential anxiety
- Chronic pain
- Non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes, cancer, fibromyalgia)
- Relationship problems
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions
How can I help?
I practice as part of an inclusive therapists community in the heart of East London, Hackney. It is a short walk from Hackney Central Station, London Fields Station and well connected with numerous buses on Mare Street.
If you live outside London, or find it difficult to go to the therapist’s office due to traffic, childcare, workload or many other things (not to mention the obvious one) limiting our time in a day. Online therapy has gained popularity over the past decade; given its advantages, it is not difficult to see why. Technology has become a big part of our lives, and when used for right purposes, it is highly beneficial for healthcare services. I offer online sessions via Zoom with the comfort of your own home.
